Ozone is a natural gas abundantly found in the upper level of the atmosphere, and is best known for its ability to protect Earth from the sun’s ultraviolet rays. “Ozone can be used as a sterilant for air and water, and is generally a very safe type of sterilant because it dissipates quickly,” according to William Fairbrother of New York-based Scientists for Public Information.
